Writing in Prison
Looking at my Kindle Scout campaign I think I can safely say that Hospital Hill is dead in the water. I got knocked out of the Hot & Trending after only 113 hours and haven't peaked again since. I guess I shouldn't have bragged so many times. Pride goeth before a fall and all that.
However, I'm hitting my writing goals for Lake Dead on NaNoWriMo. If you're NaNo'ing, feel free to find and add me as a writing buddy. I can't promise I'll be all that inspiring but I'm there and I'm writing.
So in the midst of writing like an animal for a whole bunch of Amazon related madness, I read this article about the bizarre and somewhat surreal experience of going to the first ever Amazon Bookstore. You heard that right. Amazon now has a brick and mortar book store that, according to the piece on New Republic, is trying way too hard to look just like the website while being a physical store. Only on the West Coast...
And finally, an interesting piece about writing in prison. Of course I was drawn to this one since I work in a juvenile prison and I find it a struggle to get these kids to write. Surprisingly, writing seems to be a great solace to adults serving time but in reading this article, I wonder if the adults who write behind bars are those who were previously exposed to literature and writing and who simply carried it with them when they were incarcerated. Interesting thoughts that I'm sure I'll return to one of these days.
In the meantime, happy writing! And reading!
